What Inhibits Businesses from Creating Video Content

In our previous post, we have explored together why avoiding video content completely, might be a pitfall for your business’ overall success. Today’s post will explore the concrete fears and doubts of business owners and other individuals that inhibit them from including video content in their strategy. This is to acknowledge these hesitations, but also to encourage to overcome them.

Camera Shyness

Camera shyness sounds like a minor phenomenon to many. However, more people than one would commonly imagine, are in fact experiencing feelings of discomfort or self-conscience in front of cameras. This combined with a fear of being in the spotlight can discourage business owners from following an active video strategy. The public eye always watching, many fear negative feedback or even judgement on their video content. In the end, an authentic presentation of yourself and your business always reigns over presenting a perhaps overly polished façade.

Fear of High Costs

While some resort to DIY approaches in their video strategy, others avoid video production completely due to the presumedly severe costs involved. Both approaches are not ideal, if a high level of professionalism is aimed to be attained. While it is true that with cinema-standard equipment, a certain level of production costs is unavoidable (for more on this topic, see our post on Production Value from a few weeks ago), simply relying on word-of-mouth video budget is also not always accurate, as people tend to inflate their video production budgets when telling others. The best path is to ask the production house of your trust for a quotation on your project to get an accurate overview on the costs involved.

No Available Know-how

A commonly perceived obstacle is the lack of in-house technical know-how with regards to video production. A lot of times business owners try to do as many diversified tasks as possible themselves, with an admirable can-do mentality and an overall aim to avoid costs. While in times of the information age, much can be done and learnt with tutorials and DIY methods mentioned above, it remains a risky endeavour with no guarantee of success. It is somehow strange that with many other business needs, business owners and leaders do not shy away from hiring an external expert or partner. When it comes to video production, many still have the perception of needing to cover that part themselves. According to us, it is about time to acknowledge video production as a specialized knowledge of its own just as other domains.

Lack of Time

Besides financial and human resources, video production requires time investment. But just like with human resources discussed above, it is not an absolute necessity to cover all related topics in-house. The option to externalize these activities is always available and might save time in the end if treated by experts. That is why our motto at Ghost Pictures is truly to relieve our clients and partners, which is why we offer support from A to Z and help with our expertise wherever needed. So if you shy away from doing pre-production and coming up with a concept yourself, we got that covered – and the same applies to post-production.

Not to say that a production house like us will solve all your problems, but we are convinced that it is easier to walk the road of video production together. And even if these doubts seem insurmountable to you, we have ample experience on issues just like yours and can help you overcome them.
