Did you ever imagine what a typical day in a production company is like? Read all about our daily journey below and we promise you’ll be surprised as to what it exactly entails to make films.
Getting Up Early
One thing is certain: as a filmmaker, it is inevitable to work early mornings. In fact, coffee is our best friend when we have another one of those early shoots. This means, getting up very early in order to pack all the gears, accessories and utilities. Driving and racing against traffic in the early hours of the day, meanwhile making sure the whole team gets on site on time. Having arrived at the location, we have to make sure arrangements on site are in order, while the creative team starts set-up right away. And the day can officially begin!
Giving our Best throughout the Day
Throughout the day, we do our best to keep our focus at 100% plus, and to ensure that every team member and partner is doing well throughout the day. As a production company, we see it as our responsibility to contribute to everybody’s wellbeing, because only then can great work be done. Despite our aims to be as prepared as possible, surprises and perhaps even problems can keep arising throughout the day. This could entail members not showing up, production delays, miscommunication, or unexpected weather situations. What always saves us there: improvisation and great teamwork!
Debrief and Brainstorming
Over lunch and dinner, we try to take a moment out of the hectic buzz of our days and sit together as a team to relax and discuss. We debrief on how the day’s been going so far, we share feedback and ideas for the rest of the day or for the next day to come. This is the time that connects us most as a team and makes every member feel heard and important. We usually wrap up late, therefore it gives us energy to have that little moment together over dinner, while mentally already preparing for the next day. That is how we manage to keep that positive energy going day by day!
This, of course, is the typical day at Ghost Pictures on the day of a shoot. There are other types of days, too: client meetings, location visits, castings, partner negotiations, purely administrative or creative days, and many more. If you’re still curious, stay tuned to our blog to find out about those, too.
